Sociability
Friends/Family Social Engagement: Eevee frequently approaches familiar people with a loose, wiggly body and soft facial expression. She often seeks close contact by climbing into laps, nuzzling into necks, or lying nearby or touching the person. When at rest, she is content to sleep near people or in her kennel. She loves to cuddle and be around the 6 year old human in her home.
Stranger Social Engagement: When approached by or approaching unfamiliar people, Eevee often displays a low, wagging tail and ears held back. She may walk past without interaction or voluntarily engage by nudging hands or leaning into petting. Her engagement often depends on the behavior and posture of the stranger and their willingness to interact.
Tolerance of Handling: During routine handling, Eevee remains calm and cooperative. She stands still for examination by a judge and is calm and cooperative for routine ear, mouth, and body examinations with no signs of stress. She tolerates veterinary procedures and nail trims while showing low-level stress indicators such as lip licking, turning her head away, or tucking her tail. Despite these signals, she continues to accept treats and allows the procedures without resistance. When released she attempts to avoid further interaction with the vet or runs to grab her toy barking after a nail trim.
Environmental Sensitivity
Startle Recovery: Eevee either does not startle in response to unexpected environmental noises (e.g. dropped items, thunder, car alarms) or recovers within a few seconds, resuming her previous behavior without lingering signs of hyper-vigilance. She lives with two small children and is well-adjusted and shows no signs of stress from children screaming and playing along with rowdy play.
Novel Object Response: When presented with new objects, Eevee typically investigates voluntarily within a few seconds, showing minimal hesitation or signs of fear.
Response to High-Traffic Environments: In novel or busy environments, Eevee walks calmly with a loose leash and neutral body posture. She continues to take treats unless significantly overstimulated. Depending on the context, she may initiate contact with unfamiliar people or dogs with a low-wagging tail, or she may choose to observe and remain neutral.
Activity & Arousal Regulation
Daily Activity Level: Indoors, Eevee is relaxed and often chooses to rest. She occasionally initiates play by bringing toys but is also content to disengage and self-entertain if her invitation is not reciprocated. While her guardian works from home, she naps at their feet, on the couch, or in a nearby room. She enjoys zooming around the backyard at least once a day and a couple of weekends a month she off leash hikes with her family, which is her favorite activity.
Excitability Threshold: Eevee redirects easily from stimulating events such as the arrival of visitors, interactions with wildlife, or energetic play. During play involving chasing or herding behaviors, she may vocalize. She will also alert bark at environmental cues such as the doorbell.
Self-Calming Ability: Following arousing events (e.g. doorbell ringing, a squirrel outside, visitors arriving), Eevee returns to a resting state on her own within 1–2 minutes.
Trainability & Focus
Training Sessions: Eevee engages readily in short, varied sessions that use positive reinforcement. She responds well to shaping and will offer behaviors proactively. In group class environments with high repetition and low variability, she may disengage and stop responding to cues.
Problem-Solving Skills: She explores puzzle toys and enrichment challenges with persistence. If she does not succeed immediately, she will often shift strategies, take a break, and return to the task later.
Separation Comfort
Crating Behavior: Eevee settles quietly when crated at home, in the car, or in novel environments. She typically lies down to rest or observes her surroundings. She does not vocalize or exhibit escape-seeking behavior when her guardian leaves or when left in the care of others.
Barrier Separation: When confined behind a baby gate or door, Eevee typically lies down to rest or engages with toys or chews. She does not vocalize or display signs of distress during these periods.
Familiar Dogs: Eevee engages in parallel or cooperative play with known dogs, displaying loose body movements, soft facial expressions, and play bows. She will initiate gentle play or rest near familiar dogs, often choosing to cohabitate peacefully in shared spaces. She will attempt to initiate a game of chase outside, but will stop playing and avoid if a dog were to tackle her to the ground or otherwise engage in rough high contact play.
Unfamiliar Dogs: When meeting new dogs, Eevee approaches with a neutral or low-wagging tail and a soft body. She may sniff and then disengage, or initiate play depending on the other dog's body language and energy. She typically actively avoids, with a low or tucked tail, overly forward or highly aroused dogs and will move away rather than escalate or have confrontation. She is tolerant of polite greetings and recovers quickly from brief, tense moments if they occur. If a dog attempts to mount her or is continually persistent and not responding to her body language she will slowly escalate her communication from actively avoiding, then growling, showing teeth, and has air snapped in appropriate social corrections.
Drive & Motivation
Prey Drive: Eevee visually tracks small mammals such as squirrels or rabbits and may alert bark or chase if off-leash. She exhibits moderate chase behavior when the stimulus is in motion but disengages easily when called or redirected. She does not fixate for long periods and shows little interest in stationary prey animals. She does not display stalking or obsessive behaviors toward small pets. She cohabitates with 2 indoor cats and 16 free-ranging chickens in the yard with no issues. No stalking, obsessive staring, or predatory behaviors have been observed and she typically ignores or shows disinterest.
Toy Drive: Eevee initiates toy-based play, especially outdoors, and will repeatedly retrieve and re-engage with objects like a jolly ball or frisbee. She engages enthusiastically in tug or fetch when a person is involved but will also self-entertain with toys. She doesn't destroy many of her toys and has many since puppyhood. She adjusts her play style to the handler’s energy and disengages when play ends.
Food Motivation: Eevee works readily for a wide range of food rewards in training. She maintains focus and engagement for both high-value and lower-value treats in the home or yard. In high-distraction settings, she may snub a lower value treat or momentarily refuse food but quickly resumes interest when stimulation levels decrease or she has had a moment to observe.
Food: Eevee typically eats a light breakfast and consumes the remainder of her kibble with dinner. She is not sensitive to changes in food brands or formulas and readily accepts a variety of treats and dog appropriate kitchen scraps. She has a habit of cleaning up leftover cat food without experiencing any digestive upset. Her stools remain consistently solid, with no history of diarrhea or signs of gastrointestinal distress.
Allergies: Eevee has shown no indications of seasonal or environmental allergies. Her skin remains free of redness, hair loss, or itchiness throughout the year. This is monitored closely, as autoimmune-related conditions have been observed in some members of the Windsprite breed.
Coat: As a dilute Windsprite (diluted black pigment), Eevee carries a potential genetic risk for Color Dilution Alopecia (CDA), a condition that is quite rare but documented and diagnosed via skin biopsy among a few individuals within the breed. To date, Eevee maintains a full, healthy coat with no signs of thinning or alopecia. None of her immediate relatives have exhibited signs of CDA.
